Jim Nolan

As is true for many of our artists, Jim Nolan’s work as a woodturner is his “second career”.  For 38 years Jim was a tool and diemaker for General Motors Corporation.  However, since retiring in 1993, he resumed his lifelong hobby as a woodturner and woodcraftsman.
Jim uses Dymond wood, exotic wood and domestic wood in his turnings.  Dymond wood is made from fourteen layers of European Birch which is dyed, laminated, impregnated with resin and baked under thousands of pounds of pressure.  His exotic woods are from South America, Southeast Asia and Africa.  The domestic woods Jim uses are walnut, oak, ash, maple and cherry.  These woods are glued together into blocks and turned, making a variety of patterns.  All pieces are Jim’s own design.
A member of the North Coast Woodturners Club and American Association of Woodturners, Jim’s work has won awards at various Arts and Crafts Festivals.
We are proud to have Jim’s work at Pear Tree Gallery.
