JMT Glassworks is a husband and wife team who currently reside in North Olmsted, Ohio About eight years ago, they started making stained glass as a hobby, and began a small business which was known as J & M Stained Glass. In the last few years, they have acquired an interest in fused glass art work and have been creating dichroic fused glass jewelry, hence JMT Glassworks!
Dichroic glass is one of the hottest materials used by jewelry artisans today and is a high-tech spin-off of the space industry. "Dichroic" is defined as having more than one color, especially when viewed from different angles or from transmitted to reflected light. The glass is cut and multiple layers are added before heating to1500 degrees in a glass-fusing kiln. Once fully fused, the pieces are annealed (cooled) for 6 to 8 hours. It is then ground to a final shape and “fire-polished”.
Through experimentation and "accidents," they have developed techniques that involve layering dichroic with other art glass, achieving vibrant colors, textures, depth and originality. The play of color as the pieces move in the light is remarkable. Each piece is one-of-a-kind and impossible to duplicate.
They have also created a line of fused glass people/pet jewelry called “Pawsitive Designz” where a portion of every sale is donated to an animal rescue group or organization.
Whether you are buying gifts for yourself, your friends or relatives, nothing gets more attention than the brilliance of dichroic glass. It is truly a wearable piece of art!
