Nic’ea Bankhead was born in Lorain, Ohio in 1972 and, according to her father, has been doodling since she could pick up a pencil. Her Dad would draw things and Nic’ea would re-draw the same images just by sight. It seems that God has blessed her with the talent of a natural born artist! Being an artist seems to run in her family…her Aunt and her father were both free-lance artists, and her grandmother Ruby Bankhead was a craft artist. Ruby made hand-made quilts, crocheted blankets, scarves and sweaters. Her grandfather James Bankhead made craft jewelry and was a woodsmith in his spare time. Nic’ea can literally say that her family has been the inspiration for her art.
And an artist she is…freelance artist, jeweler, painter, hair stylist, fashion designer, poet and lyric writer…many of her pieces winning awards and recognition, including published works of poetry with the International Society of Poets in Washington, D.C.
Nic’ea has been crafting jewelry for almost two years now and makes beautiful wire-wrapped pieces using gold filled and sterling silver wire. “It is very hard to make myself stop once I get started working. I totally lose myself in the fascinating jewels and gemstones and the knowledge of their quality and meaning.”
Most of her pieces at Pear Tree Gallery make use of quality gemstones and unique wire-wrap design. “I hope you enjoy my work as much as I enjoy making it. To me each piece values ‘expressions’ that are crafted into each design, allowing me to hand-craft, create and design all of my pieces ‘Especially for You’.”
